on 10 September 2001, my old tv blew up so after school on the tuesday I went in to Currys to buy a new one. There was noone in the store and every single tv in that empty showroom was blazing silent pictures of the twin towers collapsing over and over again.

the struggle with torpor and a sense that it is all irrelevant continues.
I have been here before many times: this does help a little.
When I do get round to it: great relief  and unexpected and startling clarity at times:
source of fresh air in a  tiny cupboard.

The Tablet editorial today: Rome will not be rebuilt in a day, yet the history of the Church shows repeatedly that ideas rejected by one ­generation can become the orthodoxy of the next. What is lacking at the moment is evidence that the Church is able to move on, amid too many signs that it would prefer to go backwards.
